I am slightly ashamed to say it, but one of the life sentences I connect with most I stole many years ago from a forgettable Hollywood film. And here is the sentence:
"Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the understanding that there are things more important than fear."
And I heard it back then, seventeen years ago, and said: yes.
Because all of us are to one degree or another paralysed by fear.
And that sentence sits on one of the best things that can happen to you in therapy.
Defeating emotion by way of the intellect.
And if you are in a state where the things you understand about the world sit with you so clearly and so strongly, you can use the power of thought to defeat everything.
Fear included.
