Right, so much nonsense is going round online about love, dating, relationships and meeting people that it's time to put this in order.
And in the spirit of the times, I have translated it into a concise list.
Have you got paper and a pen? Write this down:
1. The magical "click" that happens on dates is a myth. Studies have shown that a good relationship usually does not start with an initial mad wow.
2. Every serious relationship will always begin as a non-serious one.
3. Sexual attraction and sex are there to hold us together long enough to allow us to get to know each other in depth.
4. Following on from point 3, the purpose of the first months is not to test compatibility, but to build a relationship.
5. All couples argue. Including the good ones. It is impossible for two human beings, each of them a whole world, to be perfectly synchronised.
6. A good partner is supposed to do three things — to help you, to take an interest in you, and to reveal their inner world to you. The doses are up to you.
7. A romantic relationship is the most complicated relationship in the world to maintain, because it is the only one with no genetic connection between the two members of the pair.
8. Partners are supposed to become more similar to each other as the relationship progresses. The saying "opposites attract" is a popular myth long since refuted by research.
9. A pleasant everyday life is the most critical variable in a good relationship, far more than any peak romantic moments. Deal with it.
10. Your partner is not supposed to heal your scratches; she is supposed to prove to you that it is possible to live with you and love you despite those scratches.
